Dr Valerij Dermol and Alenka Dermol, MSc, attended the final international seminar of the project FReINDs \u2013 Future-ready Industries: Smart, Sustainable, and Circular Resource Management through Industrial Symbiosis, held at the University of Stavanger in Norway in September 2026.<\/p>\n
The event, entitled \u201cReducing Waste Through Circular Economy and Industrial Symbiosis: Lessons Learned from Practice,\u201d presented experiences, good practices, and results in industrial symbiosis, the circular economy, and the more efficient use of resources. The seminar brought together representatives from academia and industry, students, and other stakeholders interested in sustainability, the circular economy, and collaborative resource management.<\/p>\n
The FReINDs project focuses on developing smarter, more sustainable, and circular industries through digital industrial symbiosis. Its key outcomes include the development of education in industrial symbiosis, a massive open online course (MOOC), a research report, tools for assessing companies\u2019 readiness, and a network supporting the development of relevant competencies and strategies.<\/p>\n
During the seminar, project partners and guest experts presented insights into the outcomes of the FReINDs project, experiences with developing industrial symbiosis in Latvia and Norway, and opportunities for reusing resources through digital solutions.<\/p>\n
Dr Valerij Dermol also played an important role at the final event, concluding the seminar with his reflections and closing remarks. Participation in the event provided an opportunity to exchange experiences with project partners and experts and to consider how the project outcomes could be further transferred into educational and business environments.<\/p>\n
